The project aims to build a sustainable and responsible fishery in line with the MSC standard, and to encourage fishmeal companies that are FIP members to adopt the MarinTrust IP standard. This includes improving trawl fisheries for sustainable development, complying with IUU regulations, implementing the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, protecting endangered species, and ensuring responsible labor practices. Meeting these requirements is a prerequisite for selling fishmeal products to aquafeed companies and participating in the global responsible seafood supply chain.

Although initiated in 2015, FIP Vung Tau officially began implementation in 2020 and is expected to run until the end of 2035.
Its Action Goal is to support the Ba Ria Vung Tau (HCMC) authorities in better management of trawl fisheries, by building a multi-stakeholder co-management mechanism. This approach brings together fishermen, businesses, fisheries associations, management agencies, research institutions, and supporting organizations to achieve the project’s roadmap.
2025 - A Milestone Year for FIP Vung Tau
In 2025, FIP Vung Tau marks an important milestone with significant achievements by its members:
- Phuc Loc Vung Tau Co., Ltd. received MarinTrust IP certification for its improvement program on responsible sourcing and marine ingredient production.
- Nutreco International Co., Ltd. (Vietnam) achieved ASC certification for aquafeed produced with sustainable raw materials from FIP Vung Tau.
- C.P. Vietnam Corporation also achieved ASC certification for aquafeed produced with sustainable raw materials from FIP Vung Tau.
With these early successes, FIP Vung Tau has created a sustainable source of fishmeal and fish oil in Vietnam, enhancing the country’s image, position, and value in the global seafood supply chain, while contributing to the national effort to combat IUU fishing.
